About The Filter:
This project is a collaboration between Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), also known as Doctors Without Borders, and Snapchat. MSF is a global organization that provides medical aid to those affected by conflict, disaster, and exclusion from healthcare. The focus of this project is on children and adolescents in the conflict-ridden region of Diffa, Niger, who have experienced traumatic events.
The Snapchat filter offers a powerful and immersive experience for users, as they step into a virtual tent and witness the vivid drawings made by these children that capture the horrors they've lived through. Users have the opportunity to turn these traumatic memories into something beautiful through interactive features. With each interaction, users are supporting the children in their journey towards healing. The project also includes a donation link to MSF's mental health project in Diffa, Niger, with the goal of making mental health care a reality for these children.
This project aims to bring hope and healing to the children who have suffered in the conflict in Diffa, Niger and allow them to reclaim their childhoods. With over 180 million people using Snapchat every day to connect and experience the world, this filter provides a unique platform to make a meaningful difference in the lives of these children.
Children's drawings:
The Snapchat filter was created using drawings made by children who have lived through the horrors of armed conflict. These vivid images capture the devastating experiences they've endured and provide a window into their lives. By using these drawings as a basis for the filter, we seek to give users an immersive and emotional experience that highlights the impact of conflict on children.

How colour boxes are helping children in Diffa:

The strokes and colours look just like any other child’s drawing. But the scenes that the displaced children in Diffa paint are different: airstrikes, people killed with firearms, burning houses, and people fleeing. Their drawings highlight the horrific trauma of the conflict they have lived through.
Drawing is among the key tools used in mental health programs for children. Through drawing, mental health specialists can start to understand the psychological experience of a child and help them to get better. But drawing is also a way for children to more easily express their feelings related to traumatic experiences and help them to visualize and verbalize their pain – the first step to overcoming trauma.
